has anyone tried these guys in AP? they seem like a good thing to try, will eat almost anything and have a wide temp range and if you have a gravel filled tank you can breed em..

I'm just trying to work out the cons? ( the pros seem great so far)

A quick search of "tandanus" on the forum will bring up about a dozen pages... google will bring up 1000's ....

But some quick answers....

Yes, quite a few members have tried them with varying degrees of success... although the temperature range may not be as wide as you might think....

They are slow growing....

First I've heard that they can/are (easily??) breedable in a gravel bed tank...

Fisheries is currently undertaking a lot of research into the Tandanus Tandanus.... principally to protect their status in the wild... which is now listed as "threatened"....

well, they are tougher than jades! Mr Whiskers is still going strong even after all the trauma of the last two weeks. I saw him this morning begging for food, shoving juvenile jades to one side to prove his point 8)

I have tryied them, i think they are great and i think they grow rather quickly in the warmer weather but ich nockes them off rather easy.
I want to get a lot more of them but they are a little scarce in the west at the moment.
the two i have come to the serface to feed morning and night now that the weather is worming up.

I say have a go with them. good luck.

I've got about 5 that I got from Monya about 18 months ago. They have been really slow growing, but that's probably because I try to keep the water cool for my trout. If I ever get another system with warmer water (eg in a greenhouse) I would definatly try them again. I think they look great, and I hear they taste good but it will be a while before I could eat one.

Yep..

Tried them as well,

most dropped of the perch when the weather turned cold last year and the last three got knocked off by Ich.

that said, I will be trying them and the golden perch again later when a green house is built.
