I talked to a rep from http://www.greeninsulation.com.au/
this stuff is supposed to be waterproof and very good for wrapping around tanks etc, and it got me thinking - what are people using to insulate tanks, pipework, etc?

I have one tank with glass fibre batts held in place by black plastic, but water and dogs ripping it down etc have wrecked this a bit over time.
The small system is sitting on cut up broccoli box polystyrene to insulate it a bit from the concrete underneath.
Not sure how well either is working, but having to whole thing in a shed/polytube definitely helps (no wind)

I haven't had to insulate but if I was then building a box(concrete or wood) around the tank and filling the gap with expanding foam would be the way I'd go. Just like how they make freezers. Could even run pipe inside the foam. Built a float tank a couple of years ago and used polystyrene sheets glued to the outside. It worked well, 36 degrees 24/7 with only a water bed heater element under the plastic. Would work well for people wanting to warm the water up. And this had a lot of salt in it, 350kg if I remember.
