Late home tonight (dark) .... fed the fish, listened for the pumps and airstones... all seemed good

Had a raging storm a couple of hours ago, and a clap of thunder that nearly knocked me off my chair....

Jokingly posted about whether the new batch of Silver Perch might have jumped out of the tank in fright....

Once the storm passed out to sea a bit.... thought I go and check....

First impressions.... about twenty fish lazily swimming around the surface.... not overly surprising... This new batch of fingerlings seem to like to do that....

Could hear the air pump humming in the garage... but the water smelt a bit suss.... and something just didn't seem right...

Flicked the torch into the tank...... no air..... :HSM:

Either the air pump had vibrated off the table... or close to the edge...and the clap of thunder had tipped it off, ripping out the airline from the pump outlet... Dead set shock the house big time....

Spent the last hour standing in the pouring rain... netted out the fish on the surface into a temporary tub..... drained about 80% of the water, one because it was rife, two because I couldn't see the other 80 fish....

The fish in the tub didn't look too good for a while even with a couple of airstones running...

Refilled the tank... reconnected the airpump/airline and secured it... had only boodgied it together when I arrived home with the fish ....

Put the fish back in the tank... cranked the air to the max and salted.... all looks good...

Lesson.....

Don't get your fish until you've set everything up ready for them

Make sure that you do the things you should have done before you went and got the fish anyway.... the next morning.....

If the reason you didn't do the things you should have the next day is because you're on the floor with an abscessed tooth.... pull the bloody thing out with some pliers and go and do it

And who was the d;'khed said aquaponics was easy and enjoyable

Mate... I like standing out in the rain at two o'clock in the morning giving mouth to mouth resuscitation to a fish....

What's your problem....

My response last Sunday night was to roll over and go back to sleep...result...netting and counting dead fish the next morning (think your response was a more truer BYAP way )

well during the storm last night I woke up and was all sweaty (nothing sus) and the fan had turned off. This meant that the power to the plugs was gone eg. the power to the fish tank was salso gone. Was running through my head what to do and got up to go too the loo and turned on the light by instinct, on it came. urns out it was just a fuse that had blown and not the power gone so on goes the fuse and all was good.

In contrast, I was up every 2 hours checking that everything was still running okay on the first night of the blackout. Not sure why I didn't trust my 70ah to get me through the night, given that it should run for about a day.

You must have done more than just rolled over Les. I'm sure I remember the mention of a streak. BTW - did you get pictures of that

Yep they got a good 3ppt to lower their stress levels and get them through the day...

I'll change out about 30% tonight and another 30% on the weekend...

Good to see you've got your spa working. Haven't had the midnight run in the rain but was out today getting wet playing with the system.
