Thanks Dicko.

We built one on the weekend from a dryer cabinet we got from a friend. Problem is, we're about 20deg off what I feel is safe for hot smoking sausages etc so we need to find ourselves a gas burner jet from somewhere.

Anyone got an old BBQ they feel like pulling apart?

We have a little round BBQ but that jet wasn't enough to get the temp up either. SO, I'm doomed to prowl eBay until someone sells one :(

If you want to pay postage i will send you one [will have to dig it out though]

Sure! Can't hurt to recycle! :) That would be awesome.

Is it a side mount for the hose or coming up underneath? I'm hoping to paint it all up and have it looking schmick instead of balancing on bricks and popping up through the bottom like it currently is! LOL

BTW, how big is it?

Good call OBO,
The slightest breeze can really knock the heat out of a smoker,
Especially when you are trying to maintain temp at 3:00am on a winters Sunday morning, in preparation for a lunchtime function.

A little while back I got interested in the whole home brewing thing through a friend who does a very nice ginger beer. I've progressed a bit since then am now doing full mash brews. Listening to a honey beer gurgling in the fermenter as I type.

We started down the preserving trail last year when we had so many tomatoes we couldn't give them away quick enough. My other half worked on a recipe given to her by a friend for tomato-chilli jam, yumm-oh..

Hopefully this year we should get some fruit into jars and some chillies. I still want to build a cold smoker, but will wait until other major projects around the place are finished.

( I will need to get in touch with Heka about that seceret ingrediant for wine as well, sometime in the near future  )

Hmm... even a slight breeze? Interesting. We had a full-on sea breeze going on Sunday when we tested it out. Still have to fill in the big holes in the bottom too.

Did someone say honey beer??? Yumm-o... I'm so buying a kit tomorrow (or maybe the next day LOL) :drunken: Ginger beer would be awesome too... good drink for hot or cold weather but I could never get a ginger plant (the beer kind) to grow properly :(

Hi himzol, no problem  , have you got the book I mentioned above, yet - just saw it on ebay (1971) edition
GBP 5.50 .
Are you going to build a cold smoker? been planning to build one for a long time - never got around building it!
The butcher in a nearby town smokes his own mettwurst, bacon, sausages etc. takes muchlonger then hat smoking but it will last longer.

Imy - most ginger beer recipes just use powdered ginger.

Dicko - do you use gas as your fuel something else (wood, bbq briqs).

Would love to see a picture of the smoker. I've been using the webber, but one day will build something that I can do the big stuff in.
