Alright,got the first bed set up on the weekend and have the water cycling at the moment. Went and got some water and other goodies from a mates koi pond just to help the process along.
As I already had most of the gear from an old pond and found alot of other stuff, my costs so far are only $42:35 which is pretty good.
In the future I will add another bed to the pump I have going now(next to the first bed) and try to get hold of a bulker bin for another fish tank and add two more beds made out of 600ml pipe for the bottom rails(old bunk beds)

the drain is held with an off cut and there is stoppers made out of poly and flywire to stop the gravel from reaching both ends to make inspections eaisier.

Looking good there! - I like what I see, especially when it involves recycled materials!
Any idea as to what you would like to grow in your system?

The inspection holes are handy to be able to see if the water is flowing and to be able to remove the black poly water pipe incase of blockages or stick the air nozzle in to blow out

All in all it seems to be going good,will wait for a couple of weeks and stick a plant in and see how it goes.
Just a quick question,is it better to keep the pump going constently(water always running) or set it to a timer and flood/drain on the half hour?

Gnash, IN your application i don't see why cont. flow wouldn't be the best option.

Cafeful of that fly wire mesh.............i can see it clogging. See how you go, but you may want to try a minature stand pipe with 8mm holes drilled in it instead of the mesh.

Keep us posted, Your set up is the style i'm going to set up at a mates place.

The mesh is in the inspection ports and real easy to get to(to remove and clean) will take photos tonight and upload!

good that the mesh can be removed for cleaning - I had some in my grow towers which gave me uphill - landed up pokeing bigger holes in it to get rid of the problem!

Nice idea with the air compressor to blow out blockages...
