Energy use does increase, mostly due to stupid house design.

What do you do with the sunlight at 5am Sleepe ?

Not if they are wearing their hats etc Sleepe. Once again, its a case of the parent (s) taking charge of their children. If mine do something wrong (ie playing outside in the sun without their hats + t-shirts) they loose DVD / TV privledges. They wear their hats :D

Kalgoorlie daylight saving is about 20 mins different to Perth. We get sunlight a bit sooner, and nightime a bit sooner as well.

I do agree that daylight saving in Perth towards March is too much, its still dark at 7am FFS. It should finish late Feb.

Can I please have my extra hours of daylight on the 8th day of the week so I can use them better?

Well I suppose if the government funded everyone to make their houses a more efficient design and every parent was responsible all of the time it wouldn't bother me quite so much :)
BTW at the moment it does not get usefully light until past 6 oclock.
Boris
There has been a fairly marked rise in skin cancer due to ozone depletion.
Perhaps this poll shoud be taken in February, esp after a week of 40 degree temps?

Children in real time get out of school around about 3 -3.30pm.
On business time 2 -2.30 which is also the worst time for UV at the worst time of the year.
I would imagine Father Xmas is likely to give them a very unpleasant surprise in the future.

Then go to sun smart schools.
And read the statistics for WA F&F

Yep, simple fact is that it was voted against twice, twice the majority has said no... The government, with pushing from business, has decided that we are going to have it no matter what we vote, that they will give us trials of it till we just get used to it and accept it... This in it's self is enough for me to continue to vote against it.

I think it's a pretty sad state of affairs when we have to muck around with putting clocks forwards and backwards to suit work, shopping and business.. In reality nothing changes, we are trying to cheat things to suit our commercial industrialized lifestyles.

we have actually voted against it 3 times, first time was in 1975, I was 14 didn't vote but can remember it, but here are some figures for the younger generation :bigsmurf:
1975: 46.3 Yes 53.7 No
1984: 45.7 Yes 54.3 No
1992: 46.9 Yes 53.1 No

These figures are from the daylight saving wa site, Interesting thing here is that in 33 years figures are relatively the same considering the population change in this time, I think that amazing, but from 1975 - 1992 swing was .0.6% towards yes with 3.2% swing need for yes to win this is would mean on average 5.2 x 17years = 90 years and 16 more referendums before DLS will be permanent in WA
I have no doubt it will be pushed again and again and again..................... until as EB said "we just get use to it"
I deal with the east on a daily basis, I find it a tad annoying when we miss an hour in the afternoon, but we get used to it and just send an email so they can get onto it whilst I'm still in bed, really I can't see why we have to follow the east, why can't the east follow us, it appears that WA and QLD are the only two states that know whats best

why is everyone opposed to ds. I grew up in nz and it was great to come home after work and go to a bbq or the beach. Extended leisure time cant be a negative surely?
How difficult is it to wind a clock forward or back twice a year?. Time is an anthropoligical construct anyway. Every other creature uses daylight or lack there of as a yardstick.

Could just ignore it and leave the clocks alone. When I had a 24 hr stop watch I just started it at 8hrs when I got to work. If anyone asked the time an hr and a half later I would look at the watch and say 6.30. I miss that watch. It was good when it said 5min left.

I like it because of the extra hour of sunlight I get after I get home from work, can actually get stuff done.
I have found at work, the air-conditioner doesn't get turned on till a lot later. Sure I finish during the hottest part of the day, but with
that extra hour of sunlight, I am outside doing stuff, so the fans stay off longer at night. Its only when we are having tea or winding down for the night do we notice the heat. But then we have a very efficient house.

I votes yes on this poll, but whether you agree with DS or not. I doubt very much that we will get a referendum on the subject THIS time. If the government didn't listen to our opinion the last three times, I doubt they are going to care now. Businesses want it...

It is here to stay people... so get used to it!

Daylight savings is the worst idea ever. I am a morning person and get up when the sun rises . . . I used to get so much done in the mornings in summer. I used to do all my mental activities in the morning (such as a late assignment :D ) - as your brain is most active at this time. However now I don't have such a luxury.
I find that I loose track of time in summer with daylight savings and end up having tea at 8 or 9 at night. Which I'm sure isn't the best as my food has very little time to settle before I go to bed. :?
But I'm too young to vote on it anyways so I don't know what I'm complaining about . . . :(
