 - I have no motivation for water testing these days either. Haven't tested for months. Once upon a time I tested frequently - and can't remember hating it  .

Don't tell me you've lost motivation for AP altogether Steve - with that brand new shiny system. Maybe I've been living under a rock - but what fish are you running in your system since you finished with the trout? I remember some mention of you having your Murrays in there and 100 goldfish from Stu. Is that right and if so, how's that going.

Now that it's warmed up, I removed the insulation from under the lid of my outside sump this week and took the lid off for the first time in months. My 3 goldies (2 died ages back for some reason) still seem to be doing well in the sump, eventhough they have no light at all and are never fed. I remember somebody saying that the colour of goldies goes if they are not exposed to light. This is clearly not true as my 2 bright orange goldies are as bright as ever (and the 1 black one is still real black ).

Oops - sorry for the off topic

Jaymie can move these two posts to my thread ;)

only got one trout and big muzza in the 3kl system atm. have chucked in a handfull of bought "roo poo" and a handful of worm castings into the third and half filled bed. has not seemed to harm fish.

50 little muzzas are growing in my 4 foot aquarium for the moment and seem to be picking off stu's goldfish at a rate of 2 per day (half eaten, they are the same size)

am still waiting for someone to find redfin, as the muzzas will need two seasons to grow out. if i cant get any in the next month then i'll move the trout back with his 3 remaining mates into the greenwater IBC, big muzz back to the aquarium and the little muzzas into the 3kl system.

Stevo - in temperate areas, garlic is meant to be able to be planted into early spring.

As I've stated elsewhere, I'm not convinced that garlic is a good crop for AP for various reasons, not the least of which is that excess nitrogen will result in bulbs having poor keeping qualities. I suspect that the oversupply of water will also be a problem, at a minimum at the end of the growth period (ie at harvesting).

I'd be inclined to only plant it as a companion plant or if wanting to eat it green (the bulbs that is).

was planted for a piss take. have heard from a large hobby grower that they require a dry period at the end of the cycle to help them keep.

will try and post a pic of them. might pull one of the runty ones at the same time.

cheers

Oops - I misread your original post, thought you said plant, not pull. Normally harvested about 5 months after planting.

Cool - Murray Cod. Didn't realise you'd bought 50 of them. How much did they set you back?

In that case I'd leave them, unless they are getting in the way or have reached a good size. IMHO you should eat garlic grown in AP straight after you pick it.

2 bucks each, was going to give dad 25, but might stitch him ;) gave him 50 of stu's goldies instead ;)

they are very hungry fish, and are well trained on commercial food. cant wait to try them on some mince. might do this over the week end, the 4 foot aquarium is VERY due for a water change

Half a clove - I use them by the bulb  - love my garlic, though I do sometimes wonder what I smell like. A bloke said to me years ago, when I mentioned I'd just eaten a garlic Pizza, that I shouldn't worry about exuding a garlic smell, because that's the other person's problem not mine . I've worked on that principle ever since

Der, i meant half a bulb of course.

yeh, my reasoning too. if they dont like it they can 1) either eat more so it doesnt bother them or 2) get fracked ;)
