problem is peter they keep them at 28.5 degs.... so the initial shock could take them out. When I got mine, I made sure the temp was above 25 for the day they arrived, then SLOWLY reduced the temp over the ensuing weeks to average about 23 degs with minimal fluctuations using heaters overnight. My tip is wait another couple of weeks, let them get a bit bigger at the hatchery then get the biggest fingerlings they have. give yourselves the best chance to have them grown out by the end of summer when heating kills the viability. Great price though, and you guys will have a lot of fun with them

My water temp ATM is about 18-22.

As per Monya's advice, it might be a good idea to let some fish grow at the hatchery for another couple of weeks.

I spoke to HBA again, price stands at about $1:50 up to orders of 2000.
So there is no price advantage with a group order, but we can possible get bigger fish.
Apparently they normally have plenty in the 90mm to 100mm range, however, he is happy to put a couple hundred aside to grow until we want them. (price may increase slightly).
I'm keen to go with this option

So far I have expressions of interest for about 150 fish, Any one else?
KE?

Yeah, I'm a believer so I'm happy to take advice from the Adelaide Hills Apostle.... .....in a few weeks our temps should be up around 24C and a few cents more for the barra will be worthwhile.
All hail the mighty Monya

I'd love to but ...
I'm winding my system down over summer as we are planing to go away next year for an extended holiday (could be gone for up to 1 year but am still planning?) I'm going to keep a few trout with the couple of tantan and SP and try to keep the water cool. In my head I am planning a second system - heated and in a greenhouse and so will try the barra then (thats my back-up plan if I can't get my hands on the pool).

Yeah I might be keen on getting a few too. I've still got a few small trout left, so I'm not sure they will mix too well. Maybe 50-100. I'm just not too keen on having them eat each other or having to grade them each week. When are you thinking to get them now?

Getting set up for some Barra.
Decided to isolate, insulate and heat a tank, while I wait for the the main system to warm up.
Tank now sits on a rubber mat, wrapped in R1.5 roof batts and plastic.
Bamboo screening to hide the ugly insulation.

Bio-filter consists of 20L bucket filled with conditioned bio-balls.

Price was 1.5c/mm * 120mm = $1.80 ea and they threw in some free food.

The one I squashed was 110mm. However, most were close to 120mm I reckon.
No freight to pay, WBA hatcheries is just around the corner.
Must say, for a company that normally deals in commercial quantities, I was very impressed with their service.
