thanks JD, yes the system is doing well.

If you are worried about the website, simply change your profile and add www.backyardaquaponics.com

Suppose I should have looked it up before using that as a website. I produce alot of catfish fry so during my frustation with trying to register afternthe fourth try I thought hey catfishfry would be cool. Lesson learned. But just tell me what the blues have to do with fish babies? LOL.

Their manager is probably scheduling a tour of Australia after seeing their web stats.

Is this where new members say hi? If not then I apologize but there doesn't seem to be any other...

Well, hi! I'm Charlie from Arkansas, USA

Right now I'm doing some hydroponics but have wanted to get into aquaponics for some years now. Pictures of my current setups are at Charlie Little Flickr!

I was getting set up a couple years ago to go with RedClaw in a 12ft pool set into the ground but my middleman here in the USA just happened to send me all the dead ones that were completely rotten and falling apart by the time I got them...oh well

Anyway, glad to have found Backyard Aquaponics! Have already been browsing a lot and have learned quite a bit. Maybe an aquaponic setup isn't too far out of reality for me.

Welcome Charlie, this is as good as any place to introduce yourself :D

Enjoyed looking at your hydro setup - just need to convert you fully to AP

Lesson 1 - gravel washing

Thanks for the welcome Ell! Funny you should mention gravel washing. I have a big worm separator that runs on a electric motor that I have used for sifting compost and classifying river gravels in prospecting. Thought it would make a really good gravel washer with a water hose attached to a spraybar type thing...

Seen those CL, have had it in the back of the mind that it would be the right equipment for the job...only realised it after I had done a few beds and was determined to complete the job manually then :sigh:

Heya' loved the idea of aquaculture for years, but only just got round to doing some research, It'll probably be next year before I actually set anything up but by then I'll probably go for a moderate sized unit and expand as I get practical experience. The dam out here has a lot of water in it and the gentle slope of the land is just begging to be used, so as soon as I get the ideas clear in my head I'll be engaging in some experimentation.

In the mean time I'me a fairly competent PHP programmer (have brought a few products to market) and if there is still a need for adapting the code, keep an eye out for me over the next few months and I'll see what I can do.
