Nice looking fish Troutman. I dont know why mine were so small in comparison? I was feeding them twice a day (most days) with either barra pellets, native fish pellets, or very occaisionally chook pellets, and they had diced heart on a few occaisions. They are big enough to eat but a long way short of 1kg. What's your secret? Should I have stuck with the original trout pellets that I got from the hatchery?

To get maximum growth you need to feed them the high protein pelletts. Trout and Barra pelletts are usually around 40 - 45% protein where as native fish pelletts are usually 35% and chook only around 15%.

As for the cooling of the water we have discussed this many times on this forum and it just isnt economical or worthwhile to do it. With trout being such fast growers you are better off just eating them through Spring and into early summer and then getting a new batch the following Autumn.

Of course

I pretty much had two distinct sizes of Trout:

30cm @ 450g

35cm @ 550g

There were a couple in between, but most were that sized.

Brand new system, (remember it was IBC's with trout, removed trout, dug IBC's out, made a new tank and then put trout back in!). Got the trout end of april, 5cm, were never fed enough, did'nt even have trout food for the first month, gee they have done well

Wait till I get them in late March, and feed them with the auto feeder. I want 750 gram next year.

8 - 10 deg c water temp for over 3 months too.
