Finally got around to connecting a grow bed to the fish pond and already the lettuce is being eyed off by a staff member.

The pond was very overgrown with lillies and iris an when we cleaned it out we potted a number of plants in gravel. Amazed at how well they flowered without added nutrient.

There are about 20 goldfish and numerous frogs in the 1000 litre pond but need to add some real fish so will be up to see you sometime Stuart.

Thanks for the encouragement folks. Plant growth has been slow in fact the plants in the garden planted at the same time are twice the size. So this week I added 20 silver perch and started feeding pellets instead of the goldfish flakes. Hopefully that will speed up the plants in the grow bed.

The months have gone by from October with no growth in the bed. Lettuces just sat there looking like seedlings- tomatoes were small and stringy. The same seedlings I put in the ground in the vegie patch took off and produced buckets of fruit. So why would you bother with aquaponics???? Anyway I chucked some random seed into the grow bed a few weeks back and forgot about it and then this week there was an explosion in growth with the lettuces doubling in size. All of a sudden everything has gone green and tastes pretty goood too! The 60 silver perch and assorted goldfish all seem happy in the 28 degrees water and the time has come to upgrade the tank. Does anyone know of a rectangular poly tank 2000x1500x800 or thereabouts suitable for burying in the ground? Either new or 2nd hand would be fine.

Sounds like the system has cycled up and the growbeds are now productive... when it explodes... it explodes...

Nice little system Bass...
