[quote="veggie boy"]Steve - I already have a Kmart bought 2.5HP compressor, so running an air line to the chook pen would be a fair option - though ti would be fairly long to skirt the big concrete pad that is at the front of my shed :-/.

I'm kinda keen to do this pneumatic type setup now, but it sounds like the valve may be the sticking point - maybe I should consult with the king (F&F)

Who is laughing now double acting solenoid brand new 1/4in threads atm 240 volt could be run from $8.00 bunnings timer provision to throttle down exaust [to slow movemint]10 in stock if you want it could be posted with your other thing just needs screwing together

Mate - I knew you would have at least one . It being 240v might be an issue though - cos system would be run on 12volts :-/.

Will see what the boys designing this system say

Tell them these valves are energise to close or open [ the coil is only energised one way not energise to open energise to close]

Ja-rool! as the V.V would say ;)

just use it as a 240V'er VB

bugger off the schematics, they were only for the motor version. I think dicko has already said that air supply after reaching end of travel is no problem............so hooker her up to a bunnings timer to open (energise) the valve at dawn and de-energise at dusk. the coil prolly takes 1 or 2 watts, not worth the extra failure ponits of doing it another way :)

PS love the obscurity of "the other thing"

V.B. I was wondering when the bug would bite! :D

There really is nothing you cant do with Pneumatics
And then there is the benefit that it will not electricute you or burn down the house if you don't get it right the first time

F&F, What can you tell me about the valve?
I can clearly see three ports, but it looks like there might be more, hopefully five, is this the case?
Is there a schematic or a number on the valve body anywhere?

Dicko

I never answered your question regarding the door. I expect it would be about 50cm by 50cm. Preferably it would be aluminium plate I guess - so wouldn't weigh too much. The ram would have to be long enough to lift the door the 50cm. Got anything suitable.

Hi VB,

WOW! 50cm x 50cm alumin plate? Are you going to make it burglar proof? Big enouigh for Kids and dogs!
Chooks entrance/exit to my chook shed is 180m/m x 180 m/m. My chooks are White Sussex - they get in/out no problem :)

Heka - maybe 50 x 50 is a bit large. Didn't get my ruler out .

Steve - if I was to go with 240v - wouldn't that mean I'd need 240v to the chookpen - or am I missing something. I don't have power hooked into the chook pen :-/.

Dicko - the bug  - have been thinking about other things I could do with pneumatics for sure . But have also been thinking of other things I can do with windscreen wiper motors :-)

carbon fibre is light and you can buy it reasonably cheap in hobby sheet sizes...
