The folks where amazed that it could and would work. That fish and vegies where possible to grow in a closed system. They got the concept of problems that could arise, but it was only 35 minutes here, and then they had to go ..that was good !!!!

We have got to remember NO BODY except my neighbour thought it might work, they passed their judgement before researching a few basic facts. It is a town of 600 so THE word was quickly passed and contorted.....

The BYAP system worked and actually too quickly to our suprise which was really neat

My neighbour gets a good laugh out of me, when I tell her shaking my head, that I knew it might work eventually. But when it really kicked in .... we weren't ready for it .....especally me :geek:

A good day by all, and now they will get to take their yarn and story elsewhere in the community...to tell more people of the possiblities of being sustainable :compress:

Just had a major house clean in a few garden beds, and ripped out 6 tomato plants, and STUFF that was growing around the place, to me it looks like a confusion of mess, to my girlfriend, it looks like a lush beautiful productive place :blackeye:

So just done a major clean out, to get water flow happening in a better manner, and I can't believe the root mass, like a mat, of roots ....so hopefully now the flow will be a bit better in a few beds

Ripe tomato relish and green tomato chutney are in the making :flower: will post picture later

:flower: this may give you an idea, not a green house just a shade dome. That tomato mass in the middle two tables now is nicely thinned out  my motto is just dont hold back when throwing things out

I ripped a few plants out yesterday where there was bad water flow, now the system has spiked, first time since the begining. Might of stired something up. Doing a partial water change, holding off from the feed and waiting for it to settle down back to a reasonable level again. Catfish where telling me something wasn't quiet right, so I tested the water. I have the system fully flowing for the next few hours to see if that might help.

test results as follows

Ph 7.8
Nitrite 1.0 maybe higher
Ammonia 2.0
Nitrate 20 maybe more

Total spin out

You've done the right things Jessy....

System will adapt.... just been stirred up as you say... and there's less plants doing their thing as well...

Should settle fairly quickly...

Well I am at a loss, I haven't read this happening to anybody with out a mechanical failure involved. Just going to feed the barra enough to stop them eating each other. Reading 4 hours later and the ammonia has dropped back to 1 ppm and the nitrite has sky rocketed to 5 ppm maybe more.

Any ideas best course of action.... I thought the system would of been able to handle a few plants ripped out, The curse of too many tomatoes is haunting my system I think

This is pretty cool how it is happening, and so much quicker than when I had started the system, and it wasn't cycled properly, ammonia down to 0.5 ppm, pH back up to 8.0, nitrite @ 2.0 ppm and nitrate between 40 to 80 , its just like a science project but only better  Now I might get to see some hussel in the lettuces  and they might even grow properly

Yep, I have just had the same thing happen in my system from a pump failure, I am soo lucky to Gnash to look after it while I'm not home.

Recovers very quickly - you just need waaaaaaaaay more beds duffy :P
