No I plan to keep the 1 to 2 ppt of salt all the time. Just won't be able to add the water to the dirt garden. At least the protein skimmer will work better now. Have you tried to float the strawberries in your FT. From memory salt is more concentrated at the bottom of your tank. Steve might be able to confirm this. If you have a FT that does not have a strong current you might be able to use a foam raft for them.

because things like ich only respond to salt if there is a drastic (3ppt+) change in salinity and if its kept up for a few weeks. that would mean increasing from 3ppt to 6ppt and holding it there...............neither the fish nor the plants might be happy with 3 weeks of 6ppt.
1ppt has been found (many references) to provide good osmotic stress relief.

Nice strawberries. Mine don't produce fruit. They are in pots and suffer from lack of remembering to water them.

dufflight you mentioned that you wouldnt put ft discharge on your dirt garden , what is an acceptable level of salt for a dirt garden? I thought the d garden could cope as long as it wasn,t continuous.

Not sure. My main reason is the poor condition of the soil I have. The weeds have trouble growing. I was adding a lot of manure and ft water and anything else I could get my hands on. But without knowing the level of salt already in the soil it is safer to not add any more. Maybe once the salt in the FT drops over time. But if the plants can take it up and get rid of it :dontknow:
