any particular reason for vermiculite rather than perlite for the net pots?

Nah not really... perlite gives me the shits... thought I'd try the coarse grade vermiculite....

All else fails... it'll replace the fine stuff, that causes some problems in one of the blue barrels... and I'll use the fine stuff for seedling mix...

Here's the difference between Grade 2 and Grade 4 Vermiculite ...

Normally I do my seedling plugs in a 75:25 vermiculite:perlite mix (Grade 2)....

And often just perlite in the net pots.... thought I'd try some Grade 4 vermiculite in net pots unstead....

Also I have a blue barrel with a 75:25 mix of Grade 2.... but it's really fine.... working OK... but a pain if it blocks/overflows...

So I'll probably try some Grade 4 in the barrel instead... also want to trial some tomatoes in a 75:25 Grade 4 mix... and compare to hyrdoton...

Yep F&F.... works OK in flood & drain.... but it's too fine (on its own) and retains too much moisture to use straight in net pots...

Why we usually use perlite in net pots instead... holds a bit less water, but more air ... and doesn't wash away...

Left to right ... Green Oak, Iceberg, Buttercrunch, Red Migonette... and some Red Sail went in as well ...

And planted out the first tray fully...

Followed by the next day at around 18 degrees...... so they've been knocked around a bit...

Hydro nutrients at the moment VB... although I do use AP water from the water changes in the 1500ltr fish tank as the base to which I add the nutes...

Once the "mega" system growbeds are in place and running... I'll convert over one table to purely AP... and keep the other on hydro nutes... for comparison...

Water in the 1500ltr tank has been 27/28 degrees during the day... and 20+ overnight...

Silver Perch are feeding twice a day.... and I reckon they're growing.... :D
