That's the beauty of maintaining consistently accepted definitions.... ppt is parts per thousand...

Redefining it as PPT (parts per total) is just unnecessarily confusing....

A bit like trying to change the name of chift pist to something else

What like...ummm,.,..,. CHOP ??

Yep i was thinking of that

frank, I'd appreciate knowing what you're trying to achieve with
WPV PPV and PPT(otal)...you mention there is no AP equivalent, but I don't know what you mean by this.

3ppt of salt in your terms would be 0.3% WPV? 3ppt PPT?
WPV is usually expressed as weight/volume or weight:volume in most scientific stuff I've seen...avoids inventing more acronyms ;)

Weight Per Volume it is, Steem, like in 1 kg of whatever to 1 m³ of water
I have dropped the other two suggestions as they were confusing
if that is an existing abbreviation, much the better
no need to reinvent the wheel :geek:

getting back to the original questions, in my opinion 1ppt is a good level as a general tonic.

you can then raise to 3ppt or 4ppt for treatment of ich, instant rise and kept at that level for a few weeks.

+1 steve
excuse the off-topic...
I think adding large mounts of salt to a system should only be done if really necessary...imagine needing to dump 3.5kl of 3ppt water that would kill half of the plants in the garden...

if I didn't have AP there's no way I'd want 10kg of salt anywhere near my soil :?
any thoughts?

I need 160kg to get my pool up to 3ppt thats why I'm aiming at 1 or 2 ppt. Wont be able to use the water to give the dirt garden a treat if it is too high.
