Nope 1kg in 1000ltr is 1 ppt... or think of it as 1kg in 1 kltr...

i.e 1/1000th of 1000gm(kg) = 1 gm... 1/1000th of 1000ltr(kltr) = 1ltr ... 1 ppt = 1gm/ltr... or 1gm in 1/1000th of a Kltr.. 1/1000th of 1000ltr... 1 part per thousand....

Make sense....  ... not even sure it does to me...

I was the person who suggested introducing a PPT Parts Per Total or PPV Parts Per Volume definition, Bluefin
and that is what you describe: 1kg (of salt) in 1000 liters of water

coincidentally as far as salt is concerned this corresponds to PPM with a factor difference of 1000, as 1 g/l = 1000 PPM:
"Seawater has a salinity of roughly 35,000 ppm, equivalent to 35 g/L"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saline_water

so if I have it right a PPV of 1kg of salt per m³ of water or 1000 g/1000 liters would mean that the salinity of your water boils down to 1000 PPM

Nope about spot on... generally we salt at 3ppt... so for 2250ltr... 3 x 2.25 = 6.75kg... close...

Treatment for some fungal problems use a salt dip... or bath... up to 12ppt... but either literally a dip or roll in the salt solution... or a short term bath...

Treatment for Ich in Silver Perch can involve up to 6ppt...

For reference sea water is 35ppt....

Sorry Frank... definitely 35ppt....

On average, seawater in the world's oceans has a salinity of about 3.5%, or 35 parts per thousand.

So if you add salt but due to evaporation, time etc you top up your water. How do you know what the salt % is.
Is there a test kit. :?
