What suburb you from C'roach, I'm out Caboolture way if you want to have a look at mine...you'll have to remove that tie before entry tho :D

Caboolture!!!! I don't go that far on my holidays. :D
Thanks ELB and sorry for the delay, I think I'm going to go the Chift pist route. I've already started on my setup and decided to just suck it and see.
I would like to take you up on that offer when I get up that way in the future.
Hey, don't knock the tie mate. :D
(ppsst, its not really my photo) :shifty:

The reason for the tie removal is the last BYAP got dragged into the FT by the SP when he dangled his tie over the edge (never did see him again :RIP: )...just a safety thing

heh lol.

Sorry I missed this thread, so many threads so little time.

IMO, the ultimate in AP systems is the CHIFT PIST, with autosiphons (loop or bell), everything is optimised. Now I have got the bell siphons starting and stopping correctly in the big system, I will be rebuilding the small system (for the 3rd time  ), and making it CHIFT PIST - autosiphon.

Dont know if you know, but your 600 litres of growbeds will initially (once cycled) support up to 18kg of fish which is around 40 plate sized. With experience you can double this amount over time, providing you have the water volume. You will need to circulate the entire volume of you fish tanks through the growbeds at least once per hour.

Thanks Outbackozzie, I have bought the beds (720lts) and in the process of setting up that would mean 21kgs of fish (approx) right. I understand that its just a guide and that many things will determine this, but approx how many litres of FT could this size gbs sustain? I'm going the Chift pist, loop auto siphon setup with no additional aeration or anything.
D.

You will need around 300 litres of water to flood the beds, so a 1000 litre tank will reduce the amount of level fluctuation. Are you going to use a sump tank, or pump and return to the one tank?

A 1000 litre fish tank will accomodate 21 kg of fish fine.

I would still recommend using an air pump / stone to add aeration should the main pump fail. I run all of my extra air via a car battery powered inverter.

Would be pretty heartbreaking to have 20kg of fish almost ready to harvest, have a 1 hour power failure, and kill the lot.
