These are pictures of my system taken today. The first one is an overview of my place.

The second is the garden area which consists of 12m of 150mm DWV in a U shape with 28 x 100mm plant holes plus two 1m sq gravel beds 150mm deep, with room to expand with two more levels of pipe if required and vertical space. It is all filled with clay balls. There is a bio filter made out of a 40l nally tub.

The tank is a reycled shipping crate in aliminium frame 1000 litre capacity, with a 100w pump that feeds to top of garden and returns via gravity feed. The water is aerated with a 18w magnetic drive pump. All plumbing and electricity is underground.

Power is solar and water is rain and river sourced and stored in a 4000 litre tank.

The system is stocked with 30 silver perch about 5cm long. The garden is planted with coriander, lettuce, bok choy, mint, spring onion and parsley so far, with more seed in now. The seeds are germinated in rockwool in a small incubater (clear plastic lid with vents).

It has been running for about four weeks and seems to have cycled, (according to Monya's visit on the weekend) and the fish are now eating more the weather has warmed the water. The growth rate is slow due to cold nights at the moment.

I will update regularly now i worked out how to post pictures.

Most of the equipment was second hand except the DWV and pumps. Most of it come from the hydro shops of adelaide and the total system cost $580.00 including fish. Most plants are from seed, except one punnet of lettuce to cure my impatience.

HG that's well setup and next comes the enjoyment and satisfaction as the plants grow - trying to work out the sun position, definitely getting a lot of sunlight through that shade cloth, are you going to organise for some sort of roof to reduce the rain into the grow beds?

Ell,

It rains so little in summer, that a roof is not a problem, and in the winter, the excess water can just flow into the regen areas or wherever I need some.

The shelves have trays of native plants, mainly grasses up first (kangaroo grass) and waiting on Ac. melanoxylon (Blackwood) and some daisy's, hardenbergia. All collected on site and will be used to replace the weeds.

This photo was taken one morning this week, when a young male spent 2 hours rubbing his scent on the trees around our house, makes it all worthwhile.
