OBO, first system was half stormwater pipes Frank... very shallow....

As such they couldn't be flooded with any great flow rate...

Solids built up (trapped by roots) and water probably started channeling around the root balls...

May have also had problems with some algae/slime build up and evaporative losses due to the temps in Kalgoorlie... but worked "OK" for what it was worth...

75mm isn't much more than the height of NFT trays... and they're covered... again without adequate flow, and in the case of AP.... they suffer the same potential problems...

One of the reasons for the necessity to pre-filter, remove solids before utilising NFT channels with AP system water....

Heat is a major factor anyway... as it is in hydro... without sufficient flow rate, anything shallower than (IMO) 150mm just isn't worth the effort...

Less than 75mm of media (theres was only 2 bags of hydroton in the whole thing lol), worked well, but not long term.

Got me presidential approval to start the big system though. hehe she seems to be regretting that now
