Hi all,

I'm hunting for african daisies or similar... you know the ones, they are pretty much weeds, you see them growing everywhere and come in a range of really bright colours.

I'm after as many 'cuttings' as I can get (well, if you're cleaning up your garden and pulling up runners of this- with roots, that would be what I'm after)

Don't send them to the tip! Pop 'em in a post pack and send them to me!

My garden is on the coast and in full sun and really sandy and I can't get anything to grow (hence the veggie patch revamp and AP system)... I've spent about a million bucks on plants which all turn very sad looking and eventually pass away Of late, I've noticed some of the local gardens with little bits of colour here and there... and its these plants popping up! My plan is to start them off in my greenhouse and then do a mass planting of all different colours... if I can get them

A bit of a weed in WA but many garden centres in Perth stock them and people do use them in their gardens.


These are Swan River daisies (A native Aussie daisy)

Brachyscome iberidifolia (Swan River Daisy) is a colourful annual. There are many colour forms and it will grow in sun or shade. It was found in the collection of Australian plants of Baron Von Hugel collected in the Swan River area in 1837. .


My favourite easy grow daisies are the Argyranthemum Daisies: Sometimes called Margeurites.

I bought $200 worth of aussie seeds a few years ago, started them off and then planted them... no luck.

I've tested the soil and although its a little acidic and there is marl 18" below the surface... there really should be no reason that plants don't grow. Even in the parts I've put tonnes of mulch, compost and manure, cannas and arums are struggling... thats pretty sad.

I'm afraid these daisies are my last option

salt?

Possibly. Is there a test you can get for that? Aside from tasting the dirt I mean!
We are very close to the coast so it may be the one factor causing the problems. I guess there isn't much we can do if it is salt anyway.
