So far I've found that my fish don't seem to mind cloudy or colored water. It might even make them more comfortable since they feel more hidden. At least the catfish seemed quite happy with the water after I add new grow beds and cloud up the whole system (the shells always clouded the water even after a good washing.) The tilapia don't seem to mind dark water either.

Just a bummer not to see the fish to know what is going on. As the system cycles up and the bio slime gets a good hold, the water will clear. Hang in there!

Not hugely concerned TCL.... the pH threw me though.. at the temp I've been holding the tank... wasn't much room for error....

Fish looked fine last night and this morning.... just wasn't expecting a day of 36 degrees ....

Air temps have cooled considerably in the last hour.... low pressure moving in... tank down to 24 degrees running the pump continuously to cool....

And because I've taken off the bubblers for a few hours... so the sediment has a chance to settle out a bit... airstones were lifting the water and holding everything in suspension

I'll baby them for another hour or two... see how the temperature is going and make a decision whether to restart the bubblers on full... or set them on a low rate over night...

Tank hasn't settled out completely yet... but think everything's fine...

Gave the fish a very small feed... and could make out a bit of activity down low in the tank...

Scottie has found the same with the ones I dropped at his place in Sydney... seem to like staying close to the bottom....

Totally different day today.... 16.9 degrees at 09:00 (yesterday 29.2)... and tank temp 21 degrees....

Got to get myself a bigger tank..... well actually ... got to get that big thing into the garage...

Been cool all day, and raining on and off... complete contrast to yesterday... bloody met was out by a day  ).... tank temp dropped to 21 overnight... and hasn't budged from there all day....

Mind you I've been manually kicking the pump in every hour anyway... to help oxygenate the tank... and kick the little baccies into gear...

Gave the fish another little snack... stress little... to check them out now that I can see in the tank a bit...

They look fine.... ran a test a few hours later.... pH 7.4, ammonia 0.5, and nitrite 0.25....

Could be the reading reflect the seeding of the hydroton in the trough yesterday... I'm watching it...

On the other hand... the small system, with the yabbies in it has dropped nitrite to 0.25... and nitrates are heading above 40... 8)

Decided to drain the tank... and move it back away from the clothes line and into position for the mega system growbeds...

Dragged out the high volume Hozelock Titan 15000ltr pump...

And transferred the fish into the tub... to be taken to the small system temporarily...

Gave me a chance to check for fatalities, check out the size, work out the biomass...

And to count them.... four short .... only 96... he owes me... ...

About 10% were around 25-30mm.... the rest pretty consistently between 50-75mm...

Transferred them to the small system isolation tank... didn't like being caught, but seemed to settle in and check out the tank pretty quickly...

Bit hard to make them out... didn't have a polaroid lens...

So Rupe - have you run the Titan yet. I still haven't got around to playing with mine yet - current setup wouldn't handle the flow anyway.
