Hi all,
You all have a great forum (wow, lots of info  ) and I have enjoyed reading how aquaponics works. Imagine just a few weeks ago I was wondering if it was safe to water garden vegetables with my pond water. :newb:
My general interest has been organic gardening, ornamental pond came later, now I'm thinking organic fish. It just all snowballs doesn't it?
So now, I am interested in utilizing my pond/water garden for more than ornamental purposes. I have goldies, frogs and one bluegill in ~1750 gallons in an outdoor, in ground liner pond with a biofilter waterfall. It been going for a year now. My water parameters are 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 0 nitrates. My ph is really high, 8.5 or so, I've got really hard water, everything is crusty but the fish are healthy. I do have to fight the string algae.
I don't have a greenhouse so the growbeds will be a seasonal enterprise. Bluegill grow up here and I think I will be overwintering a few young ones each winter and then harvesting them the following summer keeping the offspring for the next summer. Does that sound like a good plan?

Here's a picture of the setup.

I'm looking forward to learning here, you guys sound like a great crowd.
