The discussion of "The Overflow Formerly Known As Venturi Drain"
I had been talking in my old No Holes Overflow thread about options for venturi attachments to the thing. This does make the whole idea sound more like a vacuume or sucker type thing doesn't it.

I do think calling these set ups Overflows is a good idea since we are not talking about draining anything more that the overflow as they are constant height contraptions.

Anyway, I guess the poll must have been up for some time so I'll go looking for it.

Some newbies are intimidated with the idea of being thought stupid in asking

the only stupid question is the one not asked
we all show a readiness to explain (to great length) here, which is why this is such a good forum: nobody is considered stupid

and the Australian humor has scored a few much needed points in my opinion
really had a good laugh with some of your interventions and inventions
you sure don't lack fantasy

I stick to my vote for the Poo Sucker
regardless if it is overflow or not

I also confirm my aversion to acronyms for the basic word: no immediate visualization and not enough reference to what happens
as for using them for subdivisions, I could live with that (see, I'm willing to compromise  ).

So on my drawing numbering the different drains bottom row left to right 1 to 6 top row left to right 11 to 16 (gives the possibility of adding new ones in the future) would give (open for improvement):

1. bottom drain Poo Sucker: BD Poo Sucker
2. central overflow
3. autosiphon drain
4. outside overflow drain
5. central overflow Poo Sucker: CO Poo Sucker
6. outside overflow Poo Sucker: OO Poo Sucker
7. ? not yet drawn

11. side drain Poo Sucker: SD Poo Sucker
12. side overflow drain
13. siphon Poo Sucker: S Poo Sucker
14. loop autosiphon drain
15. inside bell autosiphon Poo Sucker: IBAS Poo Sucker
16. central to side Poo Sucker: CTS Poo Sucker
17 ? not yet drawn

I did find the "no holes" description a good one, so maybe we should fit it in somewhere

Frank

:D No argument from me Frank. An exceptional forum because of the patience of some outstanding people. It can still be intimidating to a newbie. AP is a subject that seems to grow exponentially. All I thought I wanted to know about was how to grow some fish and salads.... Now I want to understand an ever increasing set of subjects. The enthusiasm with which so many different threads take off makes BYAP addictive!

So far it looks like not that many people have voted and SLO seems to have the most votes so far. SLO being Solids Lifting Overflow. I'm happy to go with that one but if steve hasn't shut down the polls yet, Go VOTE!

Yeah, I tend to read the forum in large bursts, days apart.
Too late for the poll! :geek:

So I seem to have missed the poll off between the two poll on the new name. Did it ever happen? What was the verdict since I've not been able to find it?
