i have placed an order with ausyfish for 150 s perch. My sump is 2250 lts. I have 5 baths as growbeds, all have good vegetative growth happening. My pump pumps 18000 lts per hr. The pump is on a timer and runs 15mins the 60 mins off. this cycle is repeated sun up to dusk. The pump pumps 4500 lts in 15 mins or twice the vulume of the sump/ft. At present i have about 30 goldies. The latest results are ammo .250 ph 7.4 nitrite 0 and nitrate 5. When i introduce the sps should i move to a 24hr cycle? I had an airator on 24hs continuous but it only lasted 10 weeks. Ill have to purchase another. The tank/sump water is crystal clear. Will 150 be ok for my system? I have another two g beds ready to add on if i need them.
cheers

my view is that running the pump 24hrs (on15/60 cycle) wont hurt, will remove the need for the air pump, and will certainly help you get that last 0.25ppm of ammonia out of there.

Please resist the desire to feed the SP's heavily. you're safest bet will be to gradually increase the food (from what you currently feed your goldies) every few days until you are feeding what is required.

One day of no food after putting your SP's in your tank is common practice in the fish world

hope this helps

Yep, all sounds good... you'll have to bring the other two beds online as they grow though...

What's a bath tub... about 200ltr... so at the moment you've got about 1000ltr (filtration) : 2250ltr (tank capacity)....

Add the other two tubs.... call it 1500ltr of filtration.... maybe enough.... might pay to look around for another three tubs as they get toward plate size...

Agreed rupert.

The temp of your water will play a role on wether you pump water overnight as well. If you want warmer water = day time pumping only. Opposite for cooler.

problem is, OBO, that if you try and not pump much in the heat of summer you're plants will suffer. how did you go last summer?

You only have to watch new plantings. Once established the plants have no worries. I run a short 15 min cycle at midday just to wet the gravel again.
