Can't go too far wrong forrest. Worst case is that you use a bit of grow-bed space for it and don't do it again.

No probs. How are your soil based asp going Forest. Are you buying crowns or putting some of your soil ones in? Where do you get your crowns from - greenharvest?

I'm using my soil ones, VB. I bought them from Green Harvest a few years ago.

If you're using your dirt asparagus, you know what a strong root system the stuff has. I would be concerned that such a large and vigorous root system would clog up your beds. Just be careful!

thanks janet. I will watch that. I've been thinking about it overnight and I've decided to take two out and just leave one test dummy in. I only need one to see if it works or if it doesn't, and if I do have problems with the roots, dealing with one will be easier than dealing with three. I appreciate everyone's ideas.

Janet - that is a very good point. Some of my asparagus roots go a good metre from the crown.

I pulled one plant out after growing well for a month. The root system is healthy and has grown but is still behaving itself. I'll leave the remaining two plants in to produce whatever they decide to produce.

Does anyone have updated info on growing asparagus in AP ?

I was thinking of putting a couple of plants into a pot separate from the main growbeds ... and grow something else in them as well during the dormant period.

Any experiences/thoughts ?

dont know about the asparagus but forrest had a bit of bad luck with fish [we all do from time to time ] so pulled the system down and sold it

I should add they are well respected in the permaculture industery
