with fish , from what i have read, most back off from the feed for a while, or at least keep it minimal, due to ammonia, stress, new habitat?? maybe all three. When I add new swamp fish ( joke ) the whole pecking order of the tank is out of whack for a sort time, so food isnt a good time. Each to there own, and i am a firm believer, we have to make these mistakes, to understand the eco system, we are re creating :cyclopsani:

it can be hard not to overfeed new critters. With most fish and floating food it's easy, if they don't eat it all quickly, scoop out the extra food so it doesn't rot in the tank and don't feed as much next time.

Keep a close eye on the water tests. Be ready with the water changes and stop feeding if the ammonia or nitrites start to spike.

pH is 7.4 haven't tested the other goodies yet because I'm mostly scared! LOL No yabbies are dead that we can see... lots hiding in all my pipes and the food around the bottom is reducing, half eaten bits of corn.

We will plant the tommies on the weekend and experiment by not adding anything but yabbie food for a few weeks. We have plenty of tomato seed so it will be intereting to see what happens.

And that's the way you should pick up a yabbie... can't get you, and doesn't damage the yabbie...

If you ever do get one latch on.... just put your hand (yabbie attached) back in the water... the yabbie will let go...

tomatoes can grow quickly sometimes. Do realize that you will need to thin them out or they will battle each other (the tomatoes I'm talking about here not he yabbies since I know little to nothing about them) and you will get small fruit and perhaps even sickly plants. Allow them some space by cutting down the wimpier plants as they start getting bigger.

Yay (sorry about the losses though but it sounds like maybe they were just weak from the journey.)

Thin them out? Rats, I was hoping 1.5m of bed would be able to cope with 7 tomato plants

Okay, so we have a CF system which gravity feeds to the fish tank. We're using 19mm poly for the water pumping to the grow beds and have discarded the drippers so its just coming through the holes in the pipe. The pump is pretty strong and the holes which are working are blasting out. BUT we keep having blockages and have to clear the holes twice a day. Any way of stopping the problem or is it best to just take the hoses off and drill really big holes?

I would cut the plants down to 4. Pinch out the laterals and when the fruit appears trim the leave up to the fruit. this will keep them under control.
