there is a lengthy (and probably heated) discussion on the difference between worm tea and leachate. They are not the same.

i have used both , but only leachate after months of it being in a collection bucket.

you may find that sometimes both will be fine or that sometimes one will be very nasty.

if anyone can find the thread i'm talking about please post a link

will try and find the thread soon.

fresh leachate may contain high levels of partially composted material, phenols, alcohols, et. al.
can have a negative growth impact on plants.

yeh, well, i've got two chances of finding that thread :(

if you do some googling using worm farm leachate you will find a roughly 50/50 mix of people that use/dontuse.

the ones that say don't use will give reasons.

i recon if the leachate is fresh run off then dont use, if its been collecting in a bucket for months, doesn't have any H2S smell then it should be fine to dilute and use.

Personally i'd be inclined to use the aged leachate on the dirt plants and brew up some fresh tea from finished castings.

yes, i found three of those using the search term leachate............but none are the ones that contain the BIG discussion.

from the second one
Quote:
Faye, there has been considerable discussion before on this.

What came out of it was that there is a distinct difference from leachate and tea. The former being the stuff that comes out of the bottom of the worm farm, possibly bad, partially digested/broken down organic waste anerobic.

The latter or "tea" is what is made by steeping finished castings in water.

Steve

THATS the one i want, but Oh to find it. maybe leachate was spelled wrong>?
