my wife is a natural products researcher, and marine biology lecturer who has an extensive library on natural medicine. The one book i recommend you get a copy of is CULPEPPERS COLOUR HERBAL which is a modern version of a book written in 1649, when herbs were all the rage in medicine. It list the modern uses of the herbs as well. The original author was ans astrologist, so it has lots of astrology reference as well.

I have seen it a few times in second hand book shops and my copy says I paid $15, a few years ago.
