clams are a bit soft shelled, but trying to harden them up :D

...trying a bit of suction type aeration - not very successful for extended periods, needs a bit more work on it

for those that may think this is a bit cryptic...F&F and I have been doing a few trials on aeration and an alternative to mussels as a cleansing agent in the fish tank...WIPM

Project - make room for another lot of SP fingerlings

Step 1 - install "the gates of Ell"
a) check water temp (18C - might bring tears to the eyes)
b) strip down to jocks
c) check nobody around with camera
d) hop in fish tank and secure gates

Step 2 - catch big fish
I was aware there should be 20 from original lot of SP (2YO) - so worked on that amount (owed some fish to neighbours and friends so caught the lot)

Step 3 - get camera for pics...batteries flat

Step 4 weigh, measure and clean fish (results in thread under SP weight estimates, weight ranged from 746g to 350g)

Ryangas arrived part way through preparing the fish (only 24 hours late  ) so took a well deserved break and showed the system off

I caught one of the smaller SP from last years lot and it weighed in at 255 grams, this would have been one of the larger ones with the others going down to 100g, so some of the bolters have thrived

Wife went off shopping for clothes and left me unsupervised shortly after sighting me climbing out of the FT - sorry F&F, no pics of me in the tank

A quick snap of a harvest this morning - romas, cherry toms and strawbs :D
I went for the camera and came back to find some larger strawbs missing

Les,

How do you go with fruit fly. I have not tried anything above cherry size as in the past the fruit fly was really bad here.

I wonder if a green house would make it easier to control them.

Yeah I did. Thanks for the updates.

I harvested my first Jade on the weekend. Wow they had lots of fat in them. I thought I was being tough on them.

I didn't weight them but will the next ones. I also might rest them in a tank of fresher water for a couple of days to see if the slight muddy flavour disapears.

Hi Big red, I used to spray for fruit fly with the Carnarvon Ag. Department using diptrex, vegimite and sugar. Or you can make a fruit fly trap. CSIRO or Queensland Ag. would be able to help , and works well.

Freshwater fish are supposedly better purged in a salted purge tank Big Red....
