Thanks Les - within a few days I should have a pile of spring onions to this out into the bed as well - running out of bed space though :( . Sorry for hijacking your thread Murray. When I get a chance I'll move this stuff to a new topic based on growing seed or something.

Note the growth rates of the Silver Beet, all planted on the same day and were the same size seedlings at planting, the difference being (I think) that the largest one on the left is planted directly over the old gravel from the strawberry tower which contained the active bacteria.

I think this shows how that the spread of the bacteria through the grow bed is not immediate but takes some time.

This can also be seen with the size of the lettuce in the foreground

Looking great Muzza. I'm just putting in the ground work for my greenhouse then getting my system online. I'll have to come down and take a look at yours personally some time.

Donarto, you are welcome anytime. Perhaps we should organise the first of the Brisbane group meet ?
I propose we meet here at my place in a couple of Sundays time, what do you think, perhaps we should PM around and then put up a thread on the Forum

Today I fed my Jade Perch some Bok Choy seedlings, they loved them, did not eat the roots or storks but devoured the leafy parts.
Gary D, do you know if Bok Choi has mush food value to our fish ?

I don't know how fish cope with bok choi but a quick google advises that the plant is a source of folate and potassium. It also provides calcium for bone health. Carotenoids in bok choi act as antioxidants and can reduce free radical damage in the (human) body.

My Jade Perch are still at the picky stage where the harder I look around for something interesting for them to eat, the less likely they are to want it.....including (to my surprise) duckweed.

Interestingly, Ausyfish say that Jade Perch can grow at twice the rate of Silver Perch but I assume this would rely of feeding an optimum diet.

The people who make diets that are suited to Jade Perch and similar native fish don't reveal much about what's in their rations.

That is fantastic growth Muzza - don't reckon I'll be matching that.

Can't help but think that it is the buld up of solids (ie fish shit) in the grow tower gravel that has made that part of the bed grow more quickly.

Murray, would be very keen on the Brissie group get together as mentioned earlier. Great to see your system growing and evolving with each set of photos.

Fed my perch some silverbeat tonight. At first it was a couple of leaves that something had eaten holes in, but since they seemed to like it, I gave them a couple more. Just creshed then into little balls with forefinger and thumb.

This is pretty promising, particularly since this feed was straight after their pellet feed.

GD, i've found that my jade perch are only good feeders above 20C and moreso above 22C.

I'll be going back to silver perch. better suited to melburne.

That's weird Steve. My Jades feed fine at 20 and a degree or 2 below that.
