Quite the contrary Novaris....

All the research indicates that virus was dormant until a suitable host... the Redfin Perch.... was introduced....

So how does a virus that survives for 95 days in water exist without a host?

Alex I lived in Katunga for about 12 years, left for Melbourne at 17, my folks moved to Beechworth soon after. I worked 13 years as a radio tech, while doing that I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine and have been in private practice since 1991. I have lived in outer east region for 20+ yrs :)

Help need some pellets for my trout and a guide as to how much I should feed them. They are heading up to the 20cm mark and feeding well. I think I am feeding too much as they are not cleaning up.

I keep a couple of largeish goldfish in with the trout to clean up - be careful of food on the bottom of the tank - it can cause ph swings = dead fish.

1 handle of food per 10 fish / feeding, twice a day.

Thanks ODO,
I am making an air lift pump to clean the food off the bottom and into the yabbies from where the auto pump will put the remains onto the GBs where it can only do good.
I still do not have enough light in the shed.
Have been flat out and will not be able to clean the tanks out until around the 13th / 14th Sept. The 16 trout are in 1500 lts of water.

went up to Katunga Thursday back today Sat.
I double checked my pump times.
Pump stars pumping from the sump into the GB's, at 3 mins the Siphon's from the GB's kick in at 5 mins pump stops. The GB siphons for 10 mins back into the FT's.

A siphon from the FT's runs 24/7 and takes 40mins to bring the water level in the sump up to switch the pump on again.
Therefore the pump pumps for 5 min's every 50 mins 24/7.
The trout are doing well. Water temp remains at 10 to 12o, PH at 7.5. I do not do any further tests.

Hi Steve,
Huntly (son) is up there and feeds them once a day. In fact he has been feeding them too much with a lot of food on the bottom which I vacuumed off Thursday.
I also cleaned out the spare tank washed two blue drums in which I intended to transport the Reddies all for naught.
The trout are doing very well and growing but will still only be a mouthful by the time the water gets too warm.
I scored last Wednesday when a plumber friend asked if an air pump which is used to aerate large septic systems would be of any use. Wow.
It is capable of turning a 2000lt FT into a spa and should be able to service all the FT's that I am ever likely to have. I also got a float switch with around four Mts of lead.
This pump plus a 12v bat, bat charger and inverter and I will have a very effective back up system.

Alex

Three weeks later I rise to the surface now at Katunga no more moving thank you.
I have not been sitting around watching the grass try to grow with the aid of what little rain that we have had.
Now have two baths up and planted along with two 300 x 300 pots using scoria. Yes we have a red stain in the water. The most interesting thing that I have noticed is that the scoria may look wet when in fact it is not holding any actual water. It is dry well before the pump cuts in after 30 mins approx off. Where as the river gravel is still wet, really wet.
Have planted lettuce-curly-cos, cucs-lebanese-burp less-apple, rock melon, tomatoes-ox-hart-gross Lise-tommytoes, coriander, Vietnamese mint both of these in the pots.
Will put up some pics as soon as poss.

no new pics yet,
I have another problem.

With all the knowledge and experience out there in AP land maybe someone can help.
Bees are building a hive in the roof space above an outside sleep-out area.
How do I get rid of them?
No one around here is interested in adding them to their collection of hives.
I have native bees and ants pollinating my plants in the AP unit so this lot are invaders and not wanted.
