You'll be able to harvest more heat from that source. The chimney can have piping running along it. Even if it is only to pre-heat the water.

Anything that helps keep the heat intact from A to B will be a saving in the long run.
Using the smallest pipes you can get away with will lower the losses a bit more (less surface area to lose heat from. Dont forget to insulate them

I would go for the header tank if you have a power failure the wetback would boil in 5 minutes then the plastic lines would melt just get a small header tank [ss keg insulated] and run it thermo syphern right next to the heater and pump your water in and gravety feed to the fish tanks

higher flow rate IMO

as mentioned, lower "loop" temp = lower losses to atmosphere

**lower loop temp = higher TD between loop and firebox = HIGHER HEAT TRANSFER from box to loop**

lower loop temp = less instance of crud baking onto inside of loop (and it will, and flushing it probably wont cut it)

clear as mud? ;)

yep, have been playing with it and getting 2 - 3 degrees increase on a pass thru at a semi decent flow rate. I recon if I give it a full flow squirt once a day it should alleviate the solids issue?

youll need a reverse squirt at high flow - couple of times a week should do it.
