hello to all,I am setting up my first aquaponics patch(have done hydroponics before) and living up in the north west of w.a. posses some problems,mainly the 50 degree days in summer,I would like to fit some u.v lazer light over the top of my settup to stop the growing media getting to hot and pre cooking my veges,my question is will the uv lazerlight effect the plant growth,does anyone have any ideas or suggestions or should I maybe try to use light shade cloth,cheers bruce

Not sure about the UV laserlite in terms of affect on plant growth Bruce....

But out your way with the temps you get... I reckon a shade cloth would be needed anyway..

Maybe normal greenhouse film (for winter) ... with shade cloth over the top (for summer)... that can be rolled back during winter

Cyclones rupe

Use laserlight, and cover with shadecloth.

Fayes vegies seem to grow quite well.

Yep... was actually thinking of that after I posted...

Not sure even covering the laserlite with shadecloth would withstand cyclonic winds though...

A bit of a challenge.... guess you could triple screw the sheets... but they'd probably just shatter and scatter in a big blow anyway....

A profile other than Trimdek would have plenty of screws/metre, and probably have a closer purlin spacing too.
Any way to put the shadecloth inside, or is it just a pergola-type construction and open to the wind?

hey all,thanks so far for the tips,I was planning at this stage to only have a roof over the top of my settup,cyclones,what cyclones,gee up here in the ranges its the bloody tropical thunderstorms we have to worry about,pretty spectacular but wild,I will have to cross that hurdle when it arises but the house and trees should give some protection,cheers and keep the ideas coming,thanks bruce

My choice would be small orb or roma in a pearl. Bout 50% light transmission and good heat reflection.

Small orb is the profile, laserlite call it roma, I consider it stronger than other profiles. Pearl or satin is a white transluscent. This tends to diffuse the light making it pleasant to work under.

Greeting fellow Pilbra AP'er, feels kinda cool to have someone in my neighbourhood , only three hours away, lol, without highway patrol turning up. Best of luck,will watch with the greatest interest.
