Hi guys

My Silvers have survived nearly 12 months without too many losses. With the growing season coming on and fish starting to feed more, I feel an updated feeding regime is required.

So, I'm looking out for about 10kg of 4mm pellets suitable for Silvers. Does anyone have an excess they need to clear or want to share in a purchase ? Any suggestions for a preferred source, other than Ridleys from Mt Gravatt ?

TIA
Derek

Think VB had a half bag Derek... might have been 6mm though...

Try VB, Les or Aussieponic....

Just gave my 11 kg of 6mm riddleys to Les.

Do you have something against Ridley's or just Mt Gravatt Derek?

No VB, I know about Ridleys and the pet shop in Mt Gravatt. I was just seeing if there were any alternatives. No offence intended to anyone.

I did read the organic feed from Capalaba thread after posting and am interested if others are using it.

I don't want to buy my feed in 1 kilo lots from the markets so I'm looking for options and ideas.

cheers
Derek

must declare I am an agent for the organic product down here in Vic, derek. Having said that, we have had water temps down to 7-8C and I have not lost one silver perch. They were late season fingerlings so therefor small going into winter. I was a bit worried bc I don't have supplementary heating, but they have all pulled thru. Call Michael at Applied Nutrition. Yes, it's dearer but he is a small guy like the rest of us and would appreciate the business. The fish love the food by the way.
TT

Was just saying to Les yesterday that us Brisbane folk need to get our arses into gear and organise ourselves better with shared feed purchases.

I'll be getting perch fingerlings this season (I hope) as I do not intend to do the barra again. The bugger is not so much getting through the 4mm or 6mm, but rather using up the small stuff during initial grow-out - which then means you buy small quantities at high cost.

When I'm ready to buy - I'll put out a call to arms and see what we can get organised this year.

I get my pellets from the rothwell produce mate... 4mm ridleys, bout $4 a kilo but cheaper if you want 5+ I think... I only buy in 2Kg lots, it's just up the road for me though. if you're in narangba then it's not to far away for ya. it's at the end of morris road in rothwell. can't miss it. they have other pellets besides ridley but you'd have to go look.

I will give Gwen a ring tomorrow and see when/if SP are available this year then get back to all

Les, I'm not sure if they're big enough for 6mm pellets so I may take you up on a smaller quantity to see how they go.

OZ, I know that produce store. I was planning to go there soon for some other stuff so I'll ask for the 4mm.

I'm also interested in a new batch of SP or Jade fingerlings so keep me in mind for a 100 of either.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I've been looking around the forum but keeping quiet. I've been trying to reinvigorate my forestry interests by going out to the property and playing with my chainsaw and will get my mill soon to cut my own lumber.

cheers
Derek

Derek - how big are your fish. The riddleys 6mm is smaller than the growbest 6mm - because it is more elongated.

vb and others, if ur looking for fingerling food, I think Michael Evans also does an organic crumble. That gets them going off the dust and the 4mm pellet will grow them out.

20-25 kilos, can't remember Rupe. Capalaba is reasonably handy to most pple in Brissy so pick ups wouldn't be a drama I don't reckon. Michael detailed freight charges earlier this year here somewhere, prolly in the fish feed threads.

I emailed Michael earlier today and he responded shortly after.

The feed is available in 25kg bags and the cost is $2.50 per kg ex GST Ex store ($68.75 per 25kg bag includes GST ex store).

I'll pick some up in the next week or two and give it a try.

Thanks for your input and offers.
cheers
Derek
