Those of us here in Florida are getting ready for Fay, those in South Florida are already being affected. Are there any extra precautions that people are taking?

I just hope we don't loose power for more than a day.

We are already getting rain, expect 5-8 inches in the next 48 hours. I am not taking any special precautions but I might have to pump out some excess water in the morning. I do have a generator on hand if the power goes out. We have been in South Florida for a long time and damage has not been too bad. We did have to replace the roof shingles twice in two years but no water ever got in the house. Lost many fruit trees to Wilma but were able to prop up and save about half of them. This one won't be nearly as bad as that.

I hope all passes without too much damage.
Over flowing FTs could be an issue.

The current path has the storm going directly over us in the wee hours or Wed morning. I do expect to loose some system water to the overflow. I just hope the rain comes in a steady downpour rather than the sudden deluges that tend to overwhelm our drainage. 8" in 48 hours is fine here, it just when we get 4" in one hour that we get flooding into the garage. At least I've lifted most stuff up off the floor now.

We just have to hope we don't see any of the spun off tornadoes and all should be ok.

I have never been to Florida, but it looks like such a great place. Shame you guys get hammered by the weather so much. Good luck.
