costs if u really need to know I will tell u what i have spent on filtration alone
$12,000
As someone said earlier in my post about failure, well been close to that with a homemade/hobby setup and we have taken the opposite to most. It was realized early on that our original set up was bound to fail so we got a few various consaultants out and retro-designed our system using existing tanks and spent money.most would give in, but i have had some hydroponic experience and seen allsorts of good bad and ok things.(nip the but early is always worked from what i have seen if u can committ mainly more $)

my plan is to get a viable and sustainable Home Based Business that can produce primary produce in an urban area which is normally suited to rural land and also try to educate via demonstate to the local community about future food crisis's due to our oil driven world.

You should have said that earlier on - some of us might not have been so sceptical.

It sounded like you wated to grow 1000 fish in 2500 liters of water, with a couple of growbeds for filtration.

Most of us would love to be able to take our systems to commercial sizes (but dont have the funding) so I will be following your progress with great interest.

As a newbie to Aquaponics your explanation for your filtration just went straight over my head  . Anyway for some reason when I read your post I feel I should be standing up and saluting. Very exciting where your system is going. Don't have to explain any further for me, I'll just hang out for the pics. Hope you are well on the way to good health. :compress:

Rupertofoz what other forum? post some links please. I know of two Dales (young guy from cycling and an old work mate)????

My name is henry S.(hew was a old nickname that has stuck) age 35, and I dont use the computer like most of u might do so. I find it hard getting around the internet on a good day, my kids we teach me soon (boy 7 girl nearly 4) I'm sure of that.

I failed over 7mths ago now and been working out a business plan and direction and also failsafe procedures now finally it's become a small business venture.

One business advice I did get and it's proved its self in week on this forum. That forums are not a sound souce of information "things taken out of context, jelious people at home with time on there hands to put others downs, sledging, facts that is 'someone said so' and it went on so u can find that advice out for yourself. It's out there. (businesses as aposed to personal)
R of oz already thinks i'm someone else, C1 thinks hes got all the answers on here for free to suit my business needs etc etc.
Well I shall leave my post for a day or two and see what feedback I get and am willing for a tour to any people in adelaide but do I want negative people like that in my presence?

Henry
Not too many negative people here (certainly not us SA folk :D )
I think most people are genuinely interested in what you are doing.
As you say, it is very easy for things to be taken out of context within forums.
Good luck with with it all, and look after your injuries.
Would like to see you setup one day.
Cheers

I agree that this forum is in the most part very positive - particularly when compared to many other forums that I have seen. Without personal contact it is easy for people to take things out of context and also I have found that in forums people who in real life would not have a bar of each other and would give each other a wide berth end up having massive blues .

I'm pretty sure that C1 was actually just indicating that people here in the most part are willing to share their experience and albeit mostly non-commercial, there is a lot of experience and knowledge here.

One thing that is very important with forums is not to be too sensitive - otherwise things that are posted are bound to get you down.

If we see you again, good, if not - good luck with it all.

Like VB says, its pretty easy to take things the wrong way when your talking to people who you've never met on the other side of the country or world. There's a couple of comments above that I didn't totally understand but I didn't get the impression that anyone was out to offend. I agree that there is alot of experience and knowledge here, and people join the forum because they want to share the knowledge. But it's mostly trial and error knowledge, something that's worked or hasn't worked in our own backyard. It's not the sort of knowledge that you would find in a professional journal or the type that we could charge consultancy fees for. Hew you are in a different league to most of us because most of us are in it for a hobby, but you have a commercial venture. We are however very interested in what you are doing, and I hope we could still learn from each other.
As for a tour, I'd love to! I've got the next 2 days off, and would love an excuse not to do any study! I'll send you a PM.
David

Whoa... sorry Henry... no offence or angst meant...

There's a bloke named "Dale" .. from Adelaide SA... that posted a thread on another forum...

Intending to grow Barramundi.... in 4 x 2800ltr tanks... http://www.aquaponicshq.com/forums/show ... ostcount=1

using 8 x 300w heaters (two per tank)... http://www.aquaponicshq.com/forums/show ... ostcount=9

running 2 x 1/4hp pumps..

450 Barra / tank ... http://www.aquaponicshq.com/forums/show ... stcount=33

And he called in "consultants" to advice him about Aquaponics utilising "NFT"...

14m x 6m greenhouse ... http://www.aquaponicshq.com/forums/show ... tcount=115

Pump shed 3m x 3m...

Just sounded so similar I thought you must be the same person...

I'm delighted that you here Henry... and would be just as delighted if in fact it was Dale...

The forum exists as a collective of like-minded people... often with like-minded desires...

Truely Henry... no offence meant in any way... I look forward to see how things pan out... your intended system is a step up on most people here...

Please stick around and contribute... I'm sure that I'm not the only one interested.. :?
