OK i am going to add more already and try and grow a dwarf fruit tree in my system as well...and i'll like everyone to help me pick my experiment...as well as offering advise for what medium to grow it in and whether to trickle feed or flood/drain..

lemon becuase it hsould fruit first. Could be a better test case.

i would have gone mulberry over lemon, because they sound yummier!!

the ones fruiting out the back haven't even made to the house for icecream..

I would go mulberyy, added bonus of leaves for silk worms, and I'll let you know if fish like them, cause I've got about a million little silk worms hatching.

mulberyy here too... takes me back to a kid and I want my kids to have them too

I go with lemon as i dont even know what is a mulberrie?? i think its best to trickle too but on the Medium i cant help you.

also a great permaculture guild plant to put in a chook pen, provides shade and falling fruit in summer then loses its leaves and provides extra sun in winter

I said lemon, cos I think mulberry would work really well any way, so citrus would be a better experiment! Figs, as Steve said, just go nuts in the roots department.

Had to go for the mulberrires,
mu little tree has just started producing and had seduced me with its wonderful berries - it was very exciting having my first piece of fruit from my own garden. It will be interesting to see how long it takes the chooks to discover them

I'd suggest lemon......or even Kaffir Lime where the leaves are also used in cooking. Both go with fish dishes and both would be productive sooner than most other tree varieties.

As for media........think about coco-peat on a dripper line (fitted with a cheap in-line filter).....run to waste. Don't take the 'run to waste' thing too seriously. You set the drip rate at about 10% more than the tree uses and the waste water is used to water any other plant.

Once a fortnight, shut the dripper off for a couple or three days.
