I've seen this model made with blue barrels.

Using the golden ratio you can get the curve. Just put a sheet of thermo-set plastic in the oven and heat to the proper temp and then using gloves and jigs, twist and shape away. Clamp in place and allow to cool. So yes you could build one, small one perhaps.
