Plus, many are working very hard to make sure that those areas of Alaska are never drilled.

I always thought that was the plan, or just take it all by force.

I am trying to get myself useing less fuel, I dont use very much for personal use, but at work I use alot. I used to leave my truck running all day with the ac on so my water will stay cool, but now I shut off the truck and use ice in my water jug. the shop I work in uses 40,000 gallons of fuel in a week, I think we could cut that by 30% if people would shut off trucks when parked. Maybe if more people would stop wasting it? Im thinking prolly the price will make people do that? As soon as I can find a electric truck that can go to town and back on a charge, Ill buy it.

The problem with oil in Alaska is that it never gets down to the lower states. It is higher in sulfur (sulphur) and is exported to Japan. We haven't drilled in many of the areas that under lease now, but many politicians think that we need more off shore drilling and leases granted. Yes, I am a shore hugger- clean beach lover.

Does AU have much off shore drilling near her pristine beaches? Tourism is no doubt important there also.

We need a decent energy policy before we grant more drilling area. Our current administration is in bed with the oil companies and will give them plenty if allowed. BTW Oil just dropped $7 today.

MC ,, mooving forward from your point,,,I've read about many eco-cars having auto motor shutoff when the vehicle is stopped(even at a red light)..... This system is not terribly hard to engineer and would represent huge oil savings with little inconvenience to the end user.I've been waiting for a retrofit unit to be introduced,,,waiting, waiting, waiting. The usefullness of this was driven home whilst in Bangkok,,Sukumvit road watching 200,000 taxi's all sitting at red lights pooring out gas fumes while I was sipping on a nice coffee in an outside area,,,,GEE I had to have a cigarette to freshen the air.
Australia's oil production is mainly out of Bass strait and the NW shelf ( from memory), but always remember if sufficient pressure comes not even the Great Barrier reef will be safe.
Apparently huge supplies are also evident in and around the Antarctic,,, watch out little Penguins!!!!
The BEST thing about oil pricesbeing high ,is that fuel saving ideas and technology become economical and realistic,,and consumption is moderated,,,mmm,,,,that is why I hope oil keeps getting more expensive

Drilling for more oil is the only solution if we keep going like this.

I like the idea of building earth ships! I bought the books a few years back. I hope one day to build one. Infact, when I bought my land I bought it on a hill where I have a south facing curve/indention in the hill.
