[align=justify]Hey guys,

Here's a copy of my groups Aqupaonics Marketing plan. The plan is for an aquaponics setup at Caboolture with a retaurant/cafe at QUT gardens point campus (in the city).

I've cut this down to just the numbers: These are real world numbers:

Appendix A – Cost Calculations

-Land
-1 acre of land in Caboolture for $245,000 initial cost to purchase
(Rural Sales – Queensland, unknown)

-To rent 80sqm per annum its $18,400

-Aquaponics setup
-Assuming 400 meals per day at a rate of 200 grams of fruit, vegetables or fish per plate that equals

-$245,000 in aquaponics setups are required to provide 80kgs of food per day. This is an initial setup cost with an on going cost of $20,000 in maintenance per annum.
-Truck
$27,000 refrigerated Holden Rodeo. $2000 yearly maintenance/insurance costs.
(Automotive: Ad Details, unknown)

-Employees
-Aquaponics:
-8 employees at an average wage of 35k per annum = $280,000 per annum.
- 1 Marine Biologist
- 1 Horticulturist/Planter
- 1 Crop Picker
- 1 Fish Feeder
- 1 Pump/Plumbing Maintainer
- 1 Truck Driver
- 1 Security Guard
- 1 Manager

-Restaurant:
-9 employees at an average wage of 30k per annum = $270,000 per annum.
- 2 Chefs
- 1 Head Chef
- 2 Kitchen Hands
- 3 Waiters/Waitresses/Bar Staff
- 1 Manager

-Telephone, electrics, etc. - $5,000 per annum

Total initial cost = land + aquaponics setup + truck
= $245,000 + $245,000 + $27,000
= $517,000

Ongoing costs = $280,000 + $270,000 + $18,400 + $5,000
= $573,400 per annum

Appendix B – Revenue Estimations

With the assumed 400 meals a day in Appendix A and an average profit of $6 a meal;
=$400 x 6 profit per day
=$2400 profit per day
=$2400 x 300 operating days a year
=$720,000 revenue per year

Minus the wages of staff;
=$720,000 – $573,400
=$146,600 profit per year

Hi Donarto,

You're not planning to do anything other than satisfy the requirements of your business course with that business plan are you?

I have some concerns about your salary costings (including the lack of employment on-costs) and the marketing assumptions upon which your plan is based......and that's for a start.

If it's only theoretical, it doesn't matter. If it's not.......take it to a competent business advisor before you do anything......please!

haha hi GD. There is no way I'd ever start a business on that flimsy business plan. It's just a subject requirement. Apparently we don't need any information to back anything up or any real market research. :D

D, LOL I did an entrepreneurship subject a couple of years ago and was gobsmacked at the making up numbers factor of uni business plans... ($xyz 000, yeah that sounds like first years revenue...) you'd never actually go to market with 'em that's for sure...

Academically has it been handed in/marked yet?

It's been handed in, but not marked. All this is somewhere to start a discussion on the idea of starting to get some numbers for an aquaponics business. This document isn't up to real world scratch because it didn't have to be. I just it might be a good document to shoot some real world holes through and see what comes of it...I mean will an aquaponics business work? Would it be better just to sell organically certified veges and fish (can it get certification)?

Cheers,

Duncan.

I did a little peek at the organic cert standards, alot of paper work. As I see it in the U.S. a few companies are licenced to do organic certification by the government, as yet there are no government guidelines for an aquaponic set up. So no full certification can be done, but in good faith one could do all the paper work and record keeping to lay claim to such.
Just not allowed to use the sticker.
D, I could not seriously see an AP cafe working, way to much capital investment. Only a rough 10 percent on investment and capital returned in 10 years. Don't think folks with that kind of money, get or keep that kind of money by waiting 10 years for any real earnings.
Nice work with the numbers though but I'm going to keep my wallet close for your next venture.
