Hey SD, I keep considering concrete blocks two blocks high with liner in them for beds (I was inspired by Travis Hughey's grass carp pond that is just dry-stacked blocks and liner), but I haven't priced them. It may be that wood would be cheaper than using that many concrete blocks.

I dont know will have to price it :)

From what I can tell it would be cheapest to use some boards, maybe place blocks every so often just to support the sides a bit, or drive stakes into the ground for that. Just like a regular dirt planted bed except lined. I'm running out of reasons why I haven't done this already - although the plans have been to use a steel mesh as the floor of the bed and that complicates my situation.

Alright here is the latest update for now :)

I am going to put it in my garage again for now however its going to be large still. I cannot believe how much it would cost me in Lumber to do what I wanted.. If I could just DIG! Not to mention I have no idea how I would get nearly 400 2x4's and everything else needed...

So I am going to redo my garage system I have built the base of the new fish tank. This is going to be 7ft x 3ft x 4ft then there will be 18ft long growbeds x3 :) If it works out well small scale I will invest in the wood. No need to burn that much cash yet :)

Pictures will come of the completed tank tomorrow as I should have it finished. I spent all day today cleaning out my garage to make room for more Aqua :)

SD, I'm sure this has been covered before, but would you be better off filtering before your growbeds to stop gunk getting on the plant roots?

I think my vacuum idea is a good one. I will just create a valve I can open/close to switch over the pump to the filter and remove solids from bottom.. Just have normal standpipe and clean it every other day. All the filters will still be in the loop but I will treat it like a pool sorta.

What does everybody else think of that idea?

It is huge area for fish. I need to build many more grow beds of course but here is the start  Right now it weighs in at 2600 gallon.

Well for now I am going to see how well the one grow bed does, if it does good and works past seedling stage I will move on to larger and larger :)

some people here do planting in July and harvest in November cause winter comes late.

Hey SD, how deep is that gravel? That could be a nice big gravel bed with liner under it.

This is my clear water of the cycled system. This water is about 36 inches deep and the only reason it is green is the algae growing on the bottom. The water is crystal clear :)

I was just looking at the aquaranch setup. Foam board is strong enough to hold that water? I would have thought there was a real danger of a side collapsing, especially if a klutz :hello2: accidentally kicked a side...

Slicer; how about putting thinshell concrete tanks on a portable platform (plywood, cattlepanel, something)? I think that's fairly cheap, and of course you can make them to your own specifications.

I am not using foam for side. I am using 2x8 wood for the sides. That picture above is of the Above Ground Pool. It is one of those with a floating inflated ring. Working quite well so far :)
