CityFish , from my experience its rare for us HERE in OZ to be able to buy "wild caught aussie barra" , most of it is from Thai farms

hope it tastes good but doubt its barra

Go for perch - they are friendlier and a little easier to raise - barrataste good, have a nice fillet, but are wimpy compared to silvers and Jades with respect to water conditions.

Boris,, A lot of Sydney's Barra is supplied from a large commercial AP system a bit north of Newcastle.

Much better than the Thai stuff , in fact I give Barra a miss when in Thailand,,,there's alot of better options.

Chappo, if you're thinking of Neil.... he's an "aquaculture" operation not an AP operation... and he doesn't stock Barramundi

AU eats fish from Thailand and we buy AU fish here. It makes sense. We can't buy Fl shrimp in FL stores. Only from Chile. :? So much for buy local.

These barramundi fingerlings are all Northern W.A artifically spawned meaning they are not taken from the wild but artifically inseminated (bred) barramundi stock. I think fishing restrictions on wild caught strongly restrict the market for WC barramundi.

Thats a very shocking fact though ,the barramundi coming from thailand! I would have thought it'd be cheaper to get barramundi from qld and save the whole importation mess around with customs? Just goes to show you that businesses will try to destroy another primary industry from our country to save a few dollars

Blaming "businesses" is not accurate,,,business in order to survive most sell whatthe "consumer" buys. Woolworths fresh food,,Aussiebarra $21,,Thai Barra $12,,"consumers" buy the $12 whatwould you have Woolworths do?? Perhaps have Aussie Barra asthe only choice??,,then people go to Coles for the $12 Thai Barra.
Yep it is us ( you and me) whoareto blame,,,not some faceless corporation.

Don'tworry about Barrafrom Thailand,,they are aboutto get smashed bythe Malaysians,,using Aussie technology,,,http://www.cellaqua.com/files/ASX-malaysian-jv-040907-final.pdf
Just stage oneis 700,000 kilo production,,,wonder what it will be after stage 3?????
OHHH,,forgot to mention,,Vietnam has ordered a sytem 10 TIMES this size.

Will the consumer buy the Aussie product at twice the price??? Don't think so,,so who do we blame???Business??,,governement?? Global warming???......NO we must blame ourselves, the consumer, "choice ,decision, consequence."

I know a lot of people who will not buy foreign fish (other than say stretching to NZ), me included. Unfortunately this reduced the amount of fish I can afford to eat - but I guess this will change once I have my big AP system going (one day).
