We had 3 or 4 days of steady rain, since the 1st. really hard rain I have drained almost 50% off from the tank. The fish haven't eaten properly since. It's a good thing too cuz it looks like i am not processing Ammo.

These numbers have not changed for a day or two.



The fish are eating less. If my Ammo level doesn't drop and my Nitrates continue to fall off, what else could it be?
The water looks thicker too, like I'm trying to cycle again...?

What is the PH of your rain water?

sorry, I don't know the PH of the rain however, the tank's PH is 7.2 - 7.4 like always.

If the rain has not caused a sudden drop in Ph.
Maybe the water temp has changed.
Is the rain associated with cold air ?

yes there has been cooler air day and night. water temps before the rain were 28 -29 now down to 23 -24 today we had sun.

I had a similar experiance recently.
Whilst I was worring about it. The sun came out and everthing settled down a few days latter.
Maybe just go easy on the food and let the bacteria acclimatise to the cooler water temps.

Yep, sure thing Don.... fish react to a sudden change in barometric pressure... i.e a cold front moving through....

And a drop in water temp..... they'll come good in a day or so.....



Don... your readings show that you are processing ammonia ..... that's exactly what your ammonia and nitrite tests show.... near enough to zero levels...

The little bacterial beasties are processing your feed/fish stock level just perfectly....

Any elevated level shows that they are'nt... or more correctly haven't as yet processed the ammonia.....

Things are just fine.... let it all hummm along..... say after me ..... "mellow..... melllow"

Don... just realised.... your "slightly" elevated levels are probably due to the fact that you've increased your load on the system....

By moving your pump and "sucking up" the pile of poo into the growbeds....

Bit like suddenly upping your feed.... don't worry.... the bac's will do their job...
