Now I'm worried. It's called instant ocean synthetic sea salt :(

I didn't read the packet before I bought it, just took the one the guy handed me

So should I burn it?

It says nitrate free, phosphate free.

no, but it sounds like I should. What do you think of dissolving the salt in a bucket of tank water then adding it to the tank? Even though it says not to add to an aquarium that already has fish in it?

very hard to find info on marine water kh /gh, mostly becasue the tests are not used

i've calculated that you can put 1 PPT of that salt in and not have an excessivly high GH.

pure NaCl (rock salt or non iodised table salt for example) will not raise your GH or KH, only your salinity

no worries, how many kg did you buy?

2 PPT in pure water would make your gh around 110 by my count.

if your water already has 100PPM GH then you'd raise it to 200, which is still fine.

go .5 PPT at a time, and measure PH

PM me if you need a hand with the math

Yeah, I will dissolve 600 grams in a bucket of tank water, then add it really slowly, should bring it to .5ppt. The other thing I will do tomorrow is I saw a little pond vacuumer at Bunno's for $20 so I will buy one of those and give the bottom of the tank a clean, there's a bit of uneaten food and crap on the bottom, which I assume will add to my woes when the nitrites etc start climbing. Temp at around 24 degs, still no desire for food except one bigger one that rushed apellet as it was sinking, but that was it.

don't worry too much about feeding right now

measure ph after that, and then whack another 600gms in.

repeat until your ph goes above 7.5 or you reach 2.4 kg
