Aquamad mentioned a problem with pumps, I was under the impression pond pumps were designed to run 24/7 and it was a problem to switch on and off all the time. I was planning continuous pumping for the water flow and air for trout.

The pumps I ruined were all large volume pumps which were not rated for continuous running, but were left to run 24/7... so their demise was a sure thing... If they had been on a 15 min on, 45 min off cycle they could have lasted a lot longer as they would have run for on quarter of the time... anyway, the pump should be rated for continuous running if you want to avoid the loss of pumps as I have in a continuous flow system... I have several small pond, powerhead and water feature pumps which have run for 3 years... and no worries, but they were designed for that purpose. I have found that if it does not say it is rated for continuous flow, then its not - no matter what the B*****gs sales person says :?

you're lucky you even got an opinion... when I got one of my pumps from there, the guy (who took forever to find) clearly had NFI, and ended up admitting as much :x

The pumps I have purchased and use continuously have been sourced from an aquarium shop - have not had a failure with either of them :flower:
