Members of this forum might be interested in Folke Gunther's vertical growing wall for filtering grey water.

I think it could be easily adapted for aquaponics.

You can download instructions for casting bricks for a concrete block vertical growing wall, or for constructing a vertical growing wall out of used car tyres at http://www.holon.se/folke/projects/open ... v_en.shtml

I'm on grey water and have been advised that it is not good for veggies, in fact we had used it but did not have good growth

yeah i would'nt use it for vegies so not sure it would work with AP but maybe a similar set up could be used as a vertical AP system (not using greywater but recirculated AP water)

If you are worried about growing veggies with grey water .. eating possible contaminants and all that ... perhaps consider growing flowers! Apparently carnations are fairly well suited to hydroponics. I guess it is just a matter of finding the right flower for your system.

the idea of the wall being used for AP is a good one, the way I see the setup in the link is that the grey water is being pumped through and not being pre-filtered before going to the veggies, using grey water on lawn, trees, flowers is quite acceptable (except for the smell....phew)

if it goes straight out to the yard it is fine, doesn't smell too much.
All of our plumbing goes straight out to the yard as it is (no sewerage system here, or town water). You just use it for the decorative parts of the yard and save the "clean" water for food plants

quick hijacking--
Our greywater flows thru a maze about 30 mtrs long.
Selfsewn tommies feed the chooks for months.
chocmint/rose geranium/rosemary and bananas, grapefruit
and flows on to nectarine and apricot...
...greywater is shower, kitchen sink, laundry I think which is why things grow so well...only.
Composting dunnies are the way to go with methane extractors worm tea
casings made from poop without much effort as bugs and worms do the work their disigned for and love it...
another byproduct is worms which can be fed to your fish in dried form.
If the food going in is clean and free of chemicals then that is what is going to come out..
C1
PS I am working towards this.
