VB's suggestion was for quarantine, and preventative treatment I think. 4.2 kg's seems like a lot of salt, more than I would eat in 10 years LOL
As for 29 degs, can't see the temp being able to get there without the addition of an extra big heater and some warmer weather.

None of the fish are showing any signs of ich or fungus. Have had as good a look as I can, will have another look tomorrow. (hopefully they are still alive

VB, its pointless to quarantine them as you have no other fish to quarantine them from :) if you know what i mean.

As a preventative, yes, you can use salt, but be aware that with ichand also some other things, it is not the salinity itself, but the step-change in salinity that effects the cure..........the increase my 3ppm as it were.

Temp was only an added way you can effect a cure with ich, but people should be aware, that temp alone will only make things worse as it increases the ichs reproductive rate. (unless you raise it to 31C)

Salt will also guard against nitrite poisoning of the fish so since you don't know what to expectas far as spikes go, why not dump in a kg of salt.

Steve

I'm sure the excitement hasn't worn off yet so give it up. How are the fishies? What flavor eh, (chuckle) and what was your answer? Hope they all made the transition into their new home well.

What flavour are they daddy? Barramundi flavour chook! That satisfied her no worries. She's dead keen to eat them all, keeps asking when we can eat them.
Just went and said g'night to them, and so far so good, temp steady in the 24's and they seem to be spread fairly evenly throughout the tank, not so much crowding around the pump. Maybe tomorrow they'll be ready for a snack. The guy at the hatchery said they will eat as much as you give them until they basically explode, so to take it easy.

Fish feed I have is a specific barra feed. Has 45% min protein, 9 % min fat.

Excellent. I wish I was in the same position with a tank of fish, now I have to convert the size to see how big they are. Sounds like they are starting to investigate the new digs then. Congrats!

hey monya,

nice fingerlings you have going there.

i'm sure there are people here who you could share with if you have to many.

do you plan to breed with these or just grow them out?

Monya,

One thing I noticed with my new fish (Silver Perch) was they stayed hidden from me when I gave them something to hide in. When I took away the hide, they were forced to look at my ugly mug and seem to have gotten used to me, and now they are less skittish and seemingly more calm. Then the algae set in and they have disappeared!.

see ya

Haven't thought about the breeding thing, know nothing about the ins and outs etc. Will grow em out to eat, but will try to get another smaller set up going to house a few biggies long term for display like Joel has with his perch.

HG, sounds like you are in the peasoup phase that everyone seems to go through. Sounds like it passes though.. How many perch have you got? Where did you get them from? Cheers

All well it seems thanks GF!

Water temp down to 23.4, really cold overnight here last night, so I'm okay with that. They were huddled around the heaters this morning though LOL

Ph 7.2

Amonia 0
Nitrite 0

That will all change when they start to eat. Maybe they are on a hunger strike!

Monya, unless I missed it your were asking about the salt. Make sure it is not table salt, expecially the kind that is iodized. I get salt through the pet store. I think it is a sea salt. Not very expensive and it also says how much to use. I'd read the package but the salt is over where the fish are.
Looks good, keep a check on the water.

Yep save the table salt for the end of production.
