And your sump needs to be able to hold all the water from the growbeds at once.

Have an overflow from the fish tank that runs to the grow beds, whcih drain into the sump. Sump pump puts the water back into the fish tank which overflows etc etc, If the power goes out, the sump will overflow if it is too small. ( mine does :D)

 system appears to be running well 7 mins on, the sump drains down to about 200 mil. 1.5 hrs off. I will run this through winter, then speed up the process with a bit warmer temp.
Trout feeding well, worms, pellets, dont know what the red fin are doing, sitting on the bottom :) little red fin 500 lasted about 30 seconds, with the trout  i managed to scoop about 100 out and put them into another tank.I will dig the second tank which is 1.5 mtrs deep, into the ground inside the fenced of vege garden.mmm might take a while

will raise some tomatoes on the heat tray next week, hopefully planted soon

cheers yall
mizzie

Nice to see you up and running Mizzie.... not surprised the redfin didn't last long

Couple of things... second bed from the top (in photo) is definitly flooding too high... try and keep the "flood" to about 25mm from the top of the media...

Bit concerned as to whether or not you'll be providing enough oxygenation for your trout with those timer cycles.... certainly suggest that (as noted) you'll have to up them at the very FIRST sign of any temperature rise...

Feel that you're not providing any margin for water or temperature movements.... perhaps an air pump/stone for additional aeration should be considered....

Didn't have my glasses on F&F ...

Still concerned though.... not sure what size the fish tank is... but with the figures provided... looks to be about 900- 1000Ltr (approx) flooding and returning about once every two hours.....

If the tank is about 2000ltr.... means the tank volume is only being turned over once every 4 hours... with nothing (other than the air pump ) effectively providing oxygenation to the fish tank until the timer kicks the sump pump in after 1.5 hours.... :dontknow:

nice bathtubs mizzie!. If you have the bucks, put a threaded joiner and 90degree elbow on the end of ur taps. It will direct the water down into the bed and you won't need those little splash mats.
Put a ball valve return line in ur exit line from the fishtank. Opening this up will return water to the fish tank> aeration and prolong ur pump cycle as it will take longer to fill ur grow beds. If u don't know what I mean just holler.
To stop that one bed flooding so high, just cut a slightly deeper v in ur inner stand pipe, that will solve things.
If u don't have a water test kit, please get one. Best 30 bucks you will spend. It will tell u exactly where u are in the cycling process. Otherwise ur just winging it and the fish deserve better! Most fish are lost bc we feed too much during the cycling stage. This, along with ur low pump rates, could spell trouble shortly.
Aren't bathtubs great!
