I think the stress of not being fed for a fortnight, and with slightly dodgy water, resulted in a lot (all) of Gnashes Silver Perch dying, even once into my tanks :( .

I would not blame the cold at this point. The Sp were very small, and would have had pretty much no fat reserves, and there is no algae on Gnashes tank walls to eat.

Had no fatalities for the last 2 days, but around 3 over the weekend, and a couple a day for the week prior.

All deaths are from the tanks Gnashes Sp were added to.

the SP's were feed, not the trout.
Either way a fish killer
But a learning curve none the less and next season prolly no SP's but barra instead, unless I start up another BIGGER tank.

No deaths in my tank Gnash. Water temp has been around 16 - 19C, getting down to 15 some mornings. Have to restock on pellets tomorrow and will get the rest of the goldfish into the pond over the weekend and then feed the SP some of the blood worms that I've got in the freezer for them.

Finally connected the FBT's this arvo.

They would not work before because I reduced the pipe size from 25mm to sml black poly, but last night as I put the dog out I heard water noises and investigated.
Low and behold the towers were working?????????
So today when I took my oldies around to see OBO's system he kindly let me purchase some of his spare hydroton, I got strawb's and some silverbeet then washed the hydroton when I got home, Honestly I don't know what the fuss is about washing this stuff .

I'm glad the fbt's hold the hydroton well because if i filled them with gravel or scats i would of had to add structural supports due to weight

Love the hydroton washing idea Gnash.... why didn't I think of that

Couple of dodgy looking "strawberries" in those towers though....

by the way.... how many towers did you fill with a bag of hydroton?... all four?

lost no hydroton the angle of the cut ins works well plus the tops of the towers are removable so easier to get the stuff in.
I cheated and purchased the strawb's as you see them, just washed the dirt off them (to which the old man grumbled scooped up the dirt and put in a container  ) I still have to bring him over to the Light side of the force
